Uruguay opened South American qualifying with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Bolivia. The Copa America winners received two goals from center defender Diego Lugano in the win.
The match was open from the beginning with Uruguay on the attacking foot. Just four minutes in Liverpool man Luis Suarez put the Uruguayans ahead and the rout looked on. However, Rudy Cardozo equalized for Bolivia in the 18th minute to briefly restore the country's hope of a positive result.
From then on it was all Uruguay. Lugano put the home side back on top in the 26th minute before Napoli forward Edison Cavani tallied in the 35th minute. Lugano added his second of the match in the 72nd to squash any hope of a Bolivian comeback. Marcelo Martins added Bolivia's second on a penalty in the 88th.
Bolivia returns home to host Colombia while Uruguay travels to neighbor Paraguay for their next matches on Tuesday.
