Ecuador and Argentina Dominate at Home

Ecuador alleviated some of the fears about its recent poor form with an impressive 2-0 win against Venezuela.

The home nation, which struggled during the Copa America, used two goals in the first 30 minutes to coast to the victory. Jaimen Ayovi got Ecuador off and running with a strike in the 15th. Cristian Benitez tallied the other goal in the 28th minute. Venezuela had its captain, Jose Manuel Rey sent off late in the match.

Ecuador has off on Tuesday and will travel to the United States for a friendly while Venezuela has a tough fixture coming up at home to Argentina. (Match report)

Argentina crushed Chile 4-1 that demonstrated the side's quality as one off the best in the world. Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain put three in the back of the net while Lionel Messi also added one.

Both sides were attacking all out throughout the match and Argentina exposed Chile's backline early with Higuain scoring his first in the eighth minute. Messi then scored in the 26th to give Argentina a comfortable two goal lead. Higuain added his second just after the break.

Matias Fernandez gave Chile some hope of a positive result by pulling a goal back in the 59th minute. However, Argentina answered almost immediately as Higuain completed his hat-trick in the 63rd.

Argentina now travels to Venezuela while Chile hopes to pick up its first points at home to Peru. (Match report)
