Iraq Banned From Hosting Qualifiers

Iraq's hopes of progressing to the fourth round of Asian World Cup qualifying took a hit today when FIFA announced the side are not allowed to host games.

FIFA cited security concerns and infrastructure failures in making its decision.

In Iraq's first home game of the third round against Jordan, the stadium suffered a power outage that last five minutes. It was also thought more spectators attended the match than what the stadium could hold.

The next home match for Iraq will be Nov. 11th versus China. As a result of the ban, the match will likely be played in neighboring Syria or Iran.

Iraq is currently in third place in group A with three points. They trail second place China on goal difference.
