Canada Edges Puerto Rico

Canada defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 on the road in hard-fought contest. Iain Hume, Simeon Jackson and Tosaint Ricketts had the goals for the away side.

The Canadians dominated much of the first half, but were kept out by the stingy Puerto Rican defense, which held Saint Kitts and Nevis scoreless over the weekend. Finally, with less than five minutes to go to halftime, Canada got the breakthrough.

A free kick was not cleared and fell to the feet of Hume, and the Preston North End striker made no mistake. Canada continued to control most of the match throughout the second half.

Puerto Rico did mount some offense, but failed to score on a succession of corners as the match wound down. Then, with less than 10 minutes to go, Jackson got the second after a free kick was not held by the keeper. Ricketts followed with a goal in the 89th minute to help Canada's goal difference.

The Canadians sit comfortably atop group D with six points and will be pleased how they performed in its first two games. On the other hand, Puerto Rico has a lot of room for improvement.
