Iran left it until the second half, but ran three goals by Indonesia for a comfortable 3-0 win.
Osasuna man Javad Nekounam scored the first two, in the 53rd and 74th minute, to ease any potential fears of an upset by Indonesia. Longtime national team member Andranik Teymourian made sure of all three points by adding a goal late in the 87th minute.
Iran is the group E favorite and continues group play on Tuesday when they travel to the host of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar. Indonesia will be pleased with how they played in the first half, and will try to get a win when they host Bahrain.
