El Salvador 2 Venezuela 1

El Salvador prepared for their upcoming qualifiers in Group A by taking on Venezuela at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. Since Sunday was not an international FIFA date, clubs were not required to release their players to the national sides. Both teams played mostly experimental lineups, giving starts to young players.

The game was a suitable test for El Salvador, playing a Venezuela team that made the semifinals of the Copa America last month. The Venezuelans would take the lead in the 29h minute through Fernando Aristeguieta. A late stirring comeback from the Salvadorans allowed them to squeak out with a win and a great result. An own goal by Josef Martinez off a free kick tied the score in the 83rd before Edwin Sanchez scored the game-winner in added time. Highlights below
