Europe has 13 spots available for 53 teams. Their qualifying process involves eight groups of six teams and one group of five. Each team plays its group members home and away, with the group winners qualifying directly to the finals. The eight best second place teams (result against the six place teams are ignored) are then paired together in home and away playoffs, with winner of each tie filling up the four remaining spots. Here are the groups with world rankings in parenthesis.
